Lovely Vintage Ruth Elder Tasmania Pottery Jug Circa late 1970s
Ruth Elder (1948) was born in London where she trained at the Harrow School of Art. In 1975, she migrated to Australia, working as a journeywoman for five months with John Edye at Sturt Pottery before moving to Tasmania the following year and setting up a workshop at Lower Wattle Grove. There she specialised in raw glazed stoneware and porcelain and by the time of her entry in the 1981 directory was also starting to work with enamelled porcelain and salt glazing.
