Function: Pie vents, also known as pie birds, are placed inside a pie to allow steam to escape through the chimney, preventing the filling from boiling over and ensuring the pastry cooks evenly.
Design: Produced by the Servex company, this ceramic chimney funnel features a chef figure with a painted face and a hat marked "THE SERVEX CHEF".
Origin & Details: Manufactured in Bohemia, marked as "heat-proof," and stand approximately 12 cm high. Registered in both Australia and New Zealand.
