Uranium glass you ask?

Uranium glass you ask?

Above photo - 1930s Crown Crystal Australia milk/cream jug.

Uranium glass, aaaah that Geiger counter glow - Uranium glass first made an appearance in the 1830s. Josef Reidel is often credited with inventing it naming and it after his wife. Keep in mind the Romans also intentionally used uranium bearing minerals to add colour to their glassware so who gets first dibs on invention? Probably Josef for the mass production in modern times…

I’m not an expert, just collected it when I found it and eventually found I have accrued a fair amount.

Time to let a few bits go (sigh).

I do love the research side (the academic in me) of finding out where they came from and who possibly made them. I may get the maker wrong on the odd occasion (again not an expert….) and that is where you come in hoardees, knowledge is community (and may get you a discount 😉).

I’ll be putting a few bits up as we move forward (check back regularly).

so stay tuned Hoardees!
